Solaia is a vineyard of about 20 hectares facing south-west between 350 and 400 meters a.s.l. on a rocky calcareous soil with rock of alberese and galestro, located in Tenuta Tignanello. Antinori family produced this wine for the first time in the 1978 vintage; the initial blend was 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, which was repeated in 1979. In the following years 20% of Sangiovese was introduced and some corrections were made in the relationship between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, up to arrive at the current composition. Solaia is produced only in exceptional years and was not produced in 1980, 1981, 1983,1984 and 1992.

Grapes: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 20% Sangiovese.
Soil: of Pliocene origin, rich in marine fossils with some infiltrations of clay. Rich endowment of alberese and galestro.
Vinification and ageing: the 2015 harvest, regular in its course, will be remembered for the harvest of completely healthy and ripe grapes, thanks to very favorable climatic conditions throughout the season. Despite this, the attention was very high, both in the vineyard and during the harvest and winemaking operations. Upon arrival in the cellar, the grapes were delicately de-stemmed and the grapes, before being pressed, carefully selected at the sorting table; here the attention to detail has ensured that in the 60 hl truncated cone-wine tanks only the perfect berries entered. During fermentation and maceration, the musts are slowly transformed into wine; in this phase it is necessary the extreme care to the maintenance of the freshness and the aromas, without neglecting the extraction of the colour and the management of the tannin aimed at the sweetness and the elegance. Once the skins and wine have been separated, malolactic fermentation has begun, which in barriques has enhanced the finesse and the pleasantness of the wine. The refining process takes place in new French oak barrels for about 18 months. During this period the different lots, vinified separately according to the variety and the viticultural variables, are raised in wood, and then joined a few months before bottling.
Winemaker's notes: the 2015 harvest is to be considered one of the best ever for its ideal climatic trend in all seasons, culminating in the harvesting period that allowed the grapes to ripen in perfect conditions. The extreme attention during the winemaking and careful selection of the woods for the maturation has guaranteed the obtaining of a wine from the undisputed potential, with an excellent balance and a great personality.
Colour: very intense ruby red with violet reflections.
Bouquet: excellent expression and aromatic complexity: intense notes of plum jam and ripe dark fruit such as blackberry, blueberry and black currant stand out on the nose. The evident aromas of chocolate and liquorice are perfectly integrated, leaving space on the finish to a sensation of mint capable of giving the bouquet a pleasant freshness.
