A small slice of perfection, the four-acre Erdener Prälat produces some of the greatest wines in the Mosel valley. It has 100 percent southfacing red slate soil and an extraordinarily warm microclimate, yielding wines of unequaled power and nobility. The vineyard’s exposure, combined with the warming effect of the river and the massive, heat-retaining cliffs that surround it, ensures exceptional ripeness in every vintage. The site has a 100-percent (45°) slope, very old vines in mineral-rich red slate soil, and an ideal location directly adjacent to the river. Because of its ideal exposition and warm vineyard climate, Erdener Prälat always produces the richest, most kaleidocopic wines of all our Grosse Lage (grand cru) sites.
Auslese means “selected from the harvest,” and is a luscious sweet wine made from very ripe clusters that are a ected by botrytis.
