The history of the Maison Taittinger, marked by great resourcefulness, is quite recent. It was founded in 1931 by the estonian Pierre Taittinger on the ashes of the previous historical Forest-Fourneaux, one of the oldest Maison, owner in Reims of the prestigious Comtes de Champagne building and of the Chateau de la Marquetterie in Pierry, on whose vineyards had operated friar Oudart, a famous monk involved in the origins of champagne. Now on its third generation, this Maison of Reims offers a wide range of high quality champagne including the Brut "Cuvée Prestige".
The Maison can count on a remarkable vine heritage, of 288 hectares, spread over 37 Cru and including the historic estate of La Marquetterie that touches the 30 hectares. On the owned vineyards, which cover about 50% of the production needs, grassing and thinning are practiced (a rather unusual practice in Champagne). This allows the Maison to use for the blending of each "cuvée" a good portion of wines obtained from proprietary grapes. The production is around 6.200.000 bottles (sixth Champagne producer) and the style embodies the ideal of champagne finesse.
