The winery of F.lli Agnes was born in 1960 by Luigi and Alberto Agnes and is located in Rovescala, the Oltrepò Pavese region, home to the Croatina grape. The Agnes could almost be called "the custodians of Bonarda" both for the winery's location and for the passion placed in the custody of a valued wine-growing heritage from generation to generation, producing almost exclusively Croatina wines, maximizing the vine which in the best time has adapted to the soil. As evidenced by numerous documents of the past, Rovescala has always been Bonarda's area. Among the various testimonies, one should be remembered: this is a notary deed of 1192, kept in the State Archives of Milan, in which, at the expense of a debt, three Lombard feudal lords ask the Count Anselmo of Rovescala not the restitution of the money, but the supply of 600 pieces (ie 20 hectoliters) "de puro vino suarum vinearum de Rovoscalla, de meliori quod habuerit super locum". Luigi's and Alberto Agnes's great merit has been to have bought the best areas of quality wine production over time. Thanks to the extraordinary variety of soils purchased, which a few meters away from clay soils become calcareous-tufaceous, Agnes can declare Croatina in many different ways, producing wines with profoundly different characters. Excellent interpretations of this category are Cresta del Ghiffi and Campo del Monte, two absolutely harmonious and pleasant wines.
