Erroneously it thinks that the moldy sweet wines are born in France, in the Sauternes area. Historically however the sweet wine from grapes infected with Botrytis cinerea, also known as Nobilis Mold, was born in Hungary. The sweet Tokaji was known since the Middle Ages, and came from the region around the city of Tokai (Tokaji means "Tokai" wine).Nobilis Mold and its effects on the production of the wine were identified for the first time in Hungary in 1600, and in 1641 was enacted the first law that regulated the production of this wine in the Tokaj-Hegyalja region. The first designations of origin in the world are born in Tokaj-Hegyalja region in 1737 with the zoning of the vineyards 1st, 2nd, 3rd class and unclassified. A true classification Cru is defined by law in 1772, more than eighty years before the famous "Grands Crus classés" of the Medoc, and the botrytised sweet wines have been produced intentionally in Hungary at least two centuries before the French Sauternes. Tokaji Aszú was visited by Hungarian sovereign gift to the royal families of Europe, and it was Louis XIV of France to call him "King of wines, wine of Kings".
The Disznoko Estate dates back to 1772, era in which it was declared by royal decree "1st Class Vineyard." It has gone through great pomp before knowing a deep crisis after 1870, when the Hungarian vineyards were devastated by phylloxera. After 1881 they replanted new resistant screws, but the production was further periods of crisis before and during the Great World War. In the Soviet period vineyards they were requisitioned by the state monopolies which increased production at the expense of quality. Only after the fall of the Berlin Wall the Disznoko held manages to find productive momentum, thanks to the new property, the French insurance group AXA-Millésimes, and current Laszlo Mészàros commercial director. Currently the company produces the following wines: Furmint dry; Furmint late harvest; Tokaji Aszú 3 puttonyos; Tokaji Aszú 4 puttonyos; Tokaji Aszú 5 puttonyos; Tokaji Aszú 6 puttonyos; Tokaji Aszú Eszencia; Eszencia.
